The nation that invented the battle tank is considering phasing them from service a century later. The MoD’s objective is to free up funds that allow space for new costs related to concepts such as cyberwarfare.
The country’s military officials have drawn up plans that contemplate the disappearance of all British tanks, including the so-called combat vehicles designed to support them, in a radical proposal to modernize the armed forces.
The information has been collected by The Times newspaper, in a piece in which it is noted that the fleets of 227 Challeger 2 tanks and 388 Warrior armored combat tanks in the British inventory were already classified as “obsolete” last year. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense considers the need to invest more resources in new capabilities related to cyberwarfare and space, among other cutting-edge technologies.
